At the surface

A family that goes in the water to find your leak

Aquatrace is owned and operated by Chris and Catherine Sears out of Fair Play, SC. It began as a side business on Memorial Day weekend 2016, at the pool of Chris’s father-in-law, a longtime pool builder. He asked one question: “Want to help me find a leak?”

Chris kept at it on the side for years. In March 2020, after he and Catherine prayed it through, he left his low-voltage career and went full time. The company has a line it works to, and it hangs over every visit: Saving Our Clients Money. One Gallon at a Time

Between them, the team brings over 30 years of industry experience. Here is who you will meet, and how the visit actually runs on our leak detection process page.

In the lines

Chris Sears, founder, trainer and lead inspector

Chris spent about 15 years as a low-voltage trade manager and trainer, and before that worked as a superintendent in commercial and industrial construction. That is where he learned to read a job site, run a crew and explain a problem in plain terms.

He started NAUI dive training in 2019 and has been a NAUI dive professional since 2021. He is a certified scuba instructor and the founder of Dive Factor. The dive is why Aquatrace can inspect a pool shell from the inside when listening gear and pressure tests point at the basin.

Catherine Sears, business operations manager and co-owner

Catherine is the voice most customers hear first. She handles the calls, the quotes, the scheduling and the reports, so the person at your pool is free to work. She became NAUI scuba certified in April 2021, with open water dives at Devil’s Den, Ginnie Springs and Fanning Springs.

Pricing depends on the type of pool, so every job starts with a phone consultation. Call, and she will walk through what you are seeing. The services page shows the four kinds of pool and spa we work on.

Logan Sears, technician

Logan works the jobs alongside Chris. The Big Ivy Community Center in Barnardsville, NC put it this way in September 2023: “Chris and Logan, his partner on the job, were fast and efficient.”

Integrity is the value the family works by: say what the water is doing, say what it will cost to find out, and tell you when a repair is not worth it.
